On December 14, the 69th Mainichi Koshien Bowl (Japan’s national collegiate American football championship) was held at Hanshin Koshien Stadium, and KG’s American football club, the Fighters, became the Japanese national collegiate American football champion for the fourth straight year and the 27th time overall, by defeating Nihon University’s Phoenix 55-10.
The Fighters opened the scoring and took a big lead in the first half. The team’s momentum carried over into the second half and the team scored numerous touchdowns on their way to winning the national collegiate championship. With this win, KG Fighters has an overall record of 23 wins, 22 losses and 4 draws against Nihon University Phoenix, having had more wins than losses against the Phoenix for the first time since 1958. The next game for KG Fighters is the Rice Bowl at Tokyo Dome on January 3, 2015. Let’s cheer for the KG Fighters!
