On February 7, KANKWAN COLORS, a group of 17 students from Kwansei Gakuin University and Kansai University, received a letter of appreciation from the mayor of Ikeda City in Osaka Prefecture for their successful project of revitalizing a shopping mall in the city by effectively using vacant store space.

Under this project, since 2010 the group has held a variety of events that have helped revitalize the shopping mall, provided day-care service for children, and engaged in other activities, all using vacant store space in the mall.

Marina Goto, the group’s vice president and second-year student in the Department of Urban Studies, School of Policy Studies, commented: “I’m very glad that our activities have been recognized by the city of Ikeda. This commendation gives us a tremendous boost. We will continue our activities based on our unique ideas as students to contribute to the revitalization of local communities.
