125th anniversary celebration event held at Central Auditorium

 On September 28, Kwansei Gakuin held its 125th anniversary celebration event at the Central Auditorium (125th Anniversary Commemorative Auditorium) at Nishinomiya Uegahara Campus, with the attendance of about 750 people, including former students and guests. The event was hosted by Yomiuri TV announcer Kyozo Tatsuta (2009 graduate of the School of Sociology) and actress Mana Mikura (2008 graduate of the School of Sociology).

 The celebration event started with Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing performed by Kwansei Gakuin Handbell Choir, followed by the opening fanfare from Shostakovich’s Festive Overture performed by Kwansei Gakuin University Symphony Band and the school song Old Kwansei performed by Kwansei Gakuin Glee Club.

 Following the performances were readings from the Bible by students of Kwansei Gakuin Junior and Senior High Schools, an opening speech by Akira Miyahara, Chair of the Board of Trustees of Kwansei Gakuin, an oration by Yoichi Morishita, Chair of the Commemorative Project Committee, as well as congratulatory speeches by guests of honor, including Toshizo Ido, governor of Hyogo Prefecture and Professor Atsushi Seike, President of the Japan Association of Private Universities and Colleges.

 Subsequently, Mana Mikura made a congratulatory address, followed by a showing of a commemorative video KWANSEI GAKUIN, Be a World Citizen, and the celebratory music Lambuth—Birth of Kwansei Gakuin performed by KG’s Noh club.

 Then a talk session was held under the theme “Messages for the Future: Aiming to Become World Citizens.” Students from Kwansei Gakuin University, Kwansei Gakuin Senior High School, Osaka International School and Kwansei Gakuin Elementary School participated in the talk session, which was moderated by Nobutaka Murao, an anchorman for Nippon TV’s news program News Zero and professor of the Institute of Business and Accounting, Professional Graduate School.

 Yu Toyama, a third-year student of Kwansei Gakuin Senior High School expressed his determination, saying, “Just as each individual cannot live alone, each country will need to live in harmony with various other countries around the world in the future. Each of us must continue striving to develop into a world citizen who will be able to play a leading role in helping Japan make the world a better place to live.”

 The talk session was followed by performances by the glee club and the symphony band, and a thank-you speech by Chancellor Ruth M. Grubel.

 The whole event ended with the singing of the school song “Wings of the Sky” by all people at the venue, which created a sense of togetherness.
