The School of Human Welfare Studies aims to prepare individuals who contribute to improving the quality of human life and society by providing them with solutions to problems related to mankind, society, and their transactions. To this end, the School of Human Welfare Studies is strongly committed to becoming the “center of practical science” through its rigorous research and academic programs.
The academic programs at the School of Human Welfare Studies aim to educate professionals and citizens who will contribute to society and act upon the School’s philosophy, which emphasizes: Compassion – nurturing generous understanding of others; Comprehensiveness – fostering flexible and holistic views; and Competence – developing advanced problem-solving skills to address various social welfare and health issues.

The School of Human Welfare Studies is composed of 3 departments: Department of Social Work, Department of Social Organization Development, and Department of Holistic Human Sciences. Each department offers unique research and academic programs related to their respective areas of study. In addition, courses shared by the three departments foster the School’s solidarity.

Graduate School

Exploring humanity and society broadly and deeply

Concerned with the increasing complexity and gravity of today’s society as manifested in various social issues and problems, the Graduate Program of Human Welfare Studies was established in April 2008. The Graduate Program trains practitioners and researchers to solve today’s social issues and life challenges requiring highly advanced knowledge and skills. The Master’s course builds upon the undergraduate education by developing further professional expertise. Subsequently, the Doctoral course builds on the two-year Master’s course to enhance the scholarly pursuit of new knowledge, and advance the development of academic rigor and innovation.

Unique Features of the Graduate School
・Taking an interdisciplinary approach based on social welfare studies in the context of changing values due to globalization and other factors, the Graduate School cultivates a high level of practical and empirical research skills to solve problems
・Because the Graduate School is open to working adults, many graduate students are able to balance their work and academic careers. International students are also studying here
・With a large number of faculty advisors, the Graduate School enhances research and education in various fields related to human welfare
・The Graduate School pursues human welfare in depth by exploring issues related to the essence of human existence, such as life and death, bioethics, physical theory, and health
