Dormitory Education at Kwansei Gakuin University
Kwansei Gakuin University regards university dormitories as places where students can learn about differences in culture, religion and customs to develop in-depth mutual understanding through communal living, with the aim of cultivating World Citizens who embody the motto “Mastery for Service.” Among these, Yukoryo and International Residence V are designated as international education dormitories to promote educational understanding. Through communal living with students from various cultures all over the world, residents in the international education dormitories can learn about each other’s differences and overcome the obstacles created by cultural differences while understanding one another. Resident Assistants (RAs), who are regular students at KGU, actively conduct various events and peer learning with other residents over the course of the year, with the aim of fostering and enlivening communication. There are also future plans to expand interaction with locals through social events and Language Cafes.
KGU is also expanding opportunities for international education and exchange in conventional dormitories by promoting mixed living with international students. Furthermore, in April 2025, the Genesis Dormitory opened in the KSC Co-Creation Village (C-Village) complex adjacent to the Kobe Sanda Campus. This facility offers a safe and secure living environment, allowing students, researchers and others at the Kobe Sanda Campus to focus on their studies and research. As such, KGU offers several different accommodation options for international students.

KGU Homestay Program for Exchange Students
KGU has been running a homestay program since 1980. Doing a homestay is a very effective way to learn about Japanese culture and language, and becoming a part of a Japanese family will be an amazing experience. Most host families live around one hour commute to the university. Homestay participants will have a private room with a wardrobe, desk, chair, and bedding, as well as meals (two meals on weekdays, three meals on weekends and Japanese National Holidays) and Internet access provided by their host family.
*KGU may not be able to find a suitable placement for exchange students due to their preferences, health conditions, dietary needs, or Japanese language skills.
