Financial Assistance
Through various financial assistance programs, KGU helps students from foreign countries to study in Japan.
Some of the major programs are as follows.

Scholarships for International Students
The following four types of KGU scholarships are available for students those who hold a residence status other than “Special Permanent Resident,” “Permanent Resident,” “Spouse or Child of Permanent Resident,” “Spouse or Child of Japanese National” and those who meet the requirements specified by KGU.
For Undergraduate Students
(1) KGU Pre-enrollment Reserved Scholarship for International Students (for first-year students)
Eligibility |

(3) School of Policy Studies Scholarship for International Students
Eligible applicants: Those who study at the School of Policy Studies (SPS), hold "student" residence status, or are recognized as international students by the school.
Amount awarded: 50,000 yen for each semester
Scholarship recipients: In principle, this scholarship will be awarded to all applicable international students of the School of Policy Studies.
For Graduate Students
(1) KGU Graduate School Scholarship for International Students
▪️Tentative Selection Pending University Entrance
Eligible applicants: Those who hold "student" residence status or are recognized as international students by the applicable graduate school
Amount awarded: An amount equivalent to 50% of annual tuition fees
* The screening for this scholarship is based on the entrance examination results, etc. Those selected to obtain this scholarship will receive notification of the scholarship award before they enroll at KGU. With the awarding of the scholarship already determined in advance of enrollment, prospective scholarship awardees can enroll at KGU without any financial concerns.
▪️Selection after University Entrance
Eligible applicants: Those who hold "student" residence status or are recognized as international students by the applicable graduate school
Amount awarded: An amount equivalent to 35% of annual tuition fees
KGU Tuition Reduction for Privately Funded International Students
(For Graduate Students)
Under this program, KGU offers reduced tuition fees for privately-funded international students studying at a regular (degree-seeking) graduate course and hold "student" residence status.
30% reduction of tuition fees
* The reduction does not apply to those who have attended KGU beyond the minimum years required to complete a course of study.
* The amount of tuition reduction for the next academic year and beyond has not been decided.
* Undergraduate students are not eligible.

KGU Tuition Reduction for Privately Funded International Students
Under this program, KGU offers reduced tuition fees for privately-funded international students studying at a regular (degree-seeking) undergraduate/graduate course and hold "student" residence status.
Undergraduate students: 25% reduction of tuition fees (Those who enrolled in 2020 or earlier: 30% reduction of each semester's tuition fees).
Graduate students: 30% reduction of tuition fees
* The reduction does not apply to those who have attended KGU beyond the minimum years required to complete a course of study.
* The amount of tuition reduction for the next academic year and beyond has not been decided.
Scholarships for International Students
The following three types of KGU scholarships are available for students from foreign countries.
For Undergraduate Students
(1) KGU Scholarship for International Students
Eligible applicants: Those who hold a residence status other than “Special Permanent Resident”, “Permanent Resident”, “Spouse or Child of Permanent Resident”, “Spouse or Child of Japanese National”. In addition, those who meet the requirements specified by KGU.
Amount awarded: An amount equivalent to 25% of annual tuition fees (*Those who enrolled in 2020 or earlier: 20% of annual tuition fees)
Scholarship recipients: In principles, all 1st-year international students who complete application after enrollment will receive this scholarship. From the second year onward, it will be decided by the selection process.
(2) School of Policy Studies Scholarship for International Students
Eligible applicants: Those who study at the School of Policy Studies (SPS), hold "student" residence status or are recognized as international students by the school.
Amount awarded: 50,000 yen for each semester
Scholarship recipients: In principle, this scholarship will be awarded to all applicable international students of the School of Policy Studies.
For Graduate Students
(1) KGU Graduate School Scholarship for International Students

* The screening for this scholarship is based on the entrance examination results, etc. Those selected to obtain this scholarship will receive notification of the scholarship award before they enroll at KGU. With the awarding of the scholarship already determined in advance of enrollment, prospective scholarship awardees can enroll at KGU without any financial concerns.

Eligible applicants: Those who hold a residence status other than “Special Permanent Resident,” “Permanent Resident,” “Spouse or Child of Permanent Resident,” and “Spouse or Child of Japanese National,” and who meet the requirements specified by KGU.
Amount awarded: An amount equivalent to 35% of annual tuition fees
Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarship
Those who wish to study at KGU through the MEXT Scholarship (University Recommendation) must apply through the Admission through Partner Universities Nomination (Graduate) system. Please refer to the following PDF to confirm that you are eligible to apply.
