KGU Becomes the Top University in Japan in Terms of the Number of Students Dispatched Abroad

On May 24 (Friday), the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) announced its AY2022 exchange student survey results. Kwansei Gakuin University was the top university in Japan in terms of the number of students dispatched abroad, based on partnerships with overseas universities and other programs, marking the second time since 2018 that KGU has earned this distinction. In terms of universities with the largest number of Japanese students sent by universities, etc., KGU ranked second in Japan after the University of Tokyo, and has been able to send many students abroad.
The impact of COVID-19 was still evident in AY2022, and students had to go overseas while checking various requirements such as immigration restrictions and rules in each country, vaccinations, and various other factors, but KGU was able to provide many students with valuable study abroad opportunities who had been unable to go overseas due to the pandemic.
In response to the ongoing severe economic environment surrounding students studying abroad, such as the weak yen, inflation, and the rising cost of study abroad programs, KGU decided to provide emergency financial support to undergraduate students participating in study abroad programs from AY2022, in order to ensure that students do not lose the opportunity to study abroad while still in school and can take on the challenge as they wish. The decision was made to provide Emergency Study Abroad Support Grants to serve as emergency financial assistance. A total of 120 million yen was provided to encourage students to study abroad, and approximately 170 million yen was provided in AY2023.
Since the economic environment surrounding study abroad for students continues to be severe, KGU has prepared approximately 170 million yen as Emergency Study Abroad Support Grants for AY2024, and will continue to promote study abroad by creating an environment that makes it easier for many students to go overseas.
