Kwansei Gakuin University’s American football team, the KG Fighters, won the national collegiate American football championship game (commonly known as the Koshien Bowl) held at Koshien Stadium on December 17, defeating Hosei University 61-21 to win its 34th championship and become the first team in history to win six consecutive championships. On the day of the game, QB Shuta Hoshino (sophomore, School of Business Administration), who was also named the Koshien Bowl Most Outstanding Player, made 15 of his 20 throws, including two successful passes and two touchdowns, to keep the lead from start to finish.
To commemorate the American football team’s first-ever six consecutive Koshien Bowl championships, a victory parade was held at the Nishinomiya Uegahara Campus on Wednesday, December 20. The parade featured the day's starting members along with the general cheering section (leadership, brass band, and cheerleading clubs) and about other 70 athletes, mostly 4th-year students, who marched through the campus. Current students and their parents came to congratulate them, creating a friendly atmosphere for the parade. At the end, they gathered at the plaza in front of the general gymnasium and sang the school song together. LB Taku Kaizaki (senior, School of Sociology), who served as captain of the team, said, “It didn’t feel real until now, but the parade finally made me feel that we actually did win. I’m glad we did.”
